A lesson in plastic saxophones

this is my artist statement

in the form of a poem

something I don't do well

            Statements and poetry

                  A double death march

my grad mentor, 2004

"write an artist statement about

what you would like the work to communicate---

                              and then chase that!

I did that for awhile - and then-

2016 I attached myself to the Buddha

                                 and am now thinking

                                            Why am I storying?

can't I just follow the butterfly?

come on now let the work just open up as it's being made

Ahhh but as u see I live in doubt

one Aha moment, a thousand possibilities

so maybe it's about possibilities

possibilities that come and go with breath

a cliche about nothing everything

without fear

and I see Ornette Coleman

as he played his plastic saxaphone
